From 1955 Leopold took part in exhibitions at the Republican,
all Union exhibitions and in overseas
In 1957 He became a member of the Soviet Art Union

1960-1962 Creative study visit in Baltic States
In 1964 received the title of Honored Artist of the Georgia SSR
In 1966 Leopold died in Tbilisi and is buried in his native town
Zugdidi.

I was not thoroughly familiar with Leopold Dzadzamidze’s colourful world, full of kindness and love. I knew about the tragic fate of this person, related with his unexpected death at the age of 44. I also knew that a great part of his paintings, gathered at the Painter’s House and intended for an exhibition, was destroyed by fire during the “Tbilisi war” in 1991-1992.
Leopold Dzadzamidze is one of the most prominent artists of his time. Together with his contemporaries, he tried to establish new principles in Georgian art. His creative work always reflected essential problems and the reality. 20th November is Leopold Dzadzamidze’s birthday. He would turn 96 years old. Visitors can see his artworks at our museum.
On November 20, 1922, was born a Georgian painter and graphic artist – Leopold Dzadzamidze. Leopold Dzadzamidze is one of the most prominent figures in the soviet Georgian painting. In socialistic realism and post-Stalinist painting out of European tendencies acceptable was only impressionistic style because this last one depicted the plot legibly for ordinary people and rejected avant-garde sings. Most of the Georgian painters in the 1950-60s created impressionistic arwors, which you are able to view in our museum: Jibson Jukhandze, Edmond Kalandadze, Apolon Kutateladze, etc. their impressionistic works display the first stage of aforementioned painter’s creativity. Leopols Dzadzamidze belongs to them chose impressionism as a leading tendency and almost many works in his creativity are painted in this style. Impressionism certainly represented an artistic position; with this last one painter rejected soviet ideology and unified European, Georgian and Russian cultural models.
… In 1960, a grandiose personal exhibition of Elene Akhvlediani’s work held in Tbilisi presented her as a real master of landscape painting, as a painter with her own particular themes and vision, a rich palette of colors, and diverse modes of expression. But she remained unsatisfied despite general acclaim, for no paintings of Georgia’s marvelous landscapes had succeeded in bringing the country the international recognition it deserved. Akhvlediani believed that it was necessary to establish a school for landscape artists whose main principle would be to eschew the studio in favor of painting enplein air. Her mission, she felt, was not to teach, but instead to take artists out into the open, where nature herself would show them how to develop their own artistic vision and attitudes.
And sure enough, in 1961, Akhvlediani brought together a group of artists of many different genres-artists such as Leopold Dzadzamidze, Piotr Bliotkin, Rusudan Javrishvili, M. Tandashvili, T. Nalbandiani, I. Gigolashvili, M. Amirkhanova, V. Beletskaia, N. Chernitskaia, Anna Shalikashvili, Eter Andronikashvili, Natalia Palavandishvili, N. Chikovani, N.Ghibradze, G. Tseradze, G. Toidze, Medea Tushmalishvili, Tsisia Shanshiashvili and T. Gugeshashvili. It should be mentioned that students-notably N. Makashvili and A. Kakabadze – joined these well-established artists on their expedition.
The expedition began up in the mountains of Tusheti before travelling around the entire country. By founding a group of plein air artists, Akhvlediani essentially established a new school of landscape painting, whose members she tasked with ridding themselves of stereotypes, however brilliant, and developing their own individual vision. … Akhvlediani’s efforts doubtless contributed to the further development of Georgian landscape painting. Later expeditions travelled to the outskirts of Tbilisi and beyond, across the mountains and plains of Georgia, and thematic exhibitions were held after every one as a kind of artistic account of their travels…
